Rockingham Aims to Get F1 Testing License

Wednesday October 31st, 2001

The Rockingham Motor Speedway is aiming to get the necessary license to become a Formula One testing circuit in a near future.

The British circuit hosted its first CART event earlier this season and is now hoping to receive the mandatory license from the FIA to allow Formula One testing.

"There is a big shortage of tracks for the teams to test their cars on," said Rockingham spokesperson Steve Slater. "The circuit will be to FIA standards. We will endeavour to get our track licensed for Formula One testing."

If Rockingham, which has already hosted Formula Three testing this year, gets the FIA license it would join Silverstone as the other Formula One testing venue in Britain, where most teams are based.
