Villeneuve showed he could do well during the British Grand Prix next week by setting the fastest time in testing, 1:27.50, at Silverstone(England) and outpacing his team-mate Hill, 1:27.93, however Hill did only nine laps, Villeneuve did 38. Hakkinen was third with 1:28.55.

Schumacher ran another test day in the F310 with the new 7-speed gearbox a t Monza (Italy) today. He improved the lap record set in testing yet again, Schumacher drove a 1:25.95. However he also had to pay for this improvement again: he blew up another engine, that makes two engines in two days.

Frentzen and Herbert tested new aerodynamic features and new mechanical parts on their Sauber-Fords. Frentzen clocked a best t ime of 1:27.81 while Herbert didn't do better than a 1:28.70.
