The Sauber-Ford team are testing at Mugello (Italy) and on the A1-Ring in Austria, this is the first time that there was a Formula One team again at this circuit. Frentzen tested at Mugello and clocked a fastest time of 1:26.8.

Johnny Herbert and Alexander Wurtz, a 22 year old Austrian who had his first drive in a Formula One car, were testing in Austria. Wurtz, who is with the Opel team in the ITC championship now, did a best lap of 1:20.5. Herbert came to a best of 1:17.5.

Team-boss Peter Sauber commented: "The team and our partner Red Bull are happy to be able to bring Formula One back to Austria after such a long absence. As it is very likely that we will race there next year we will not only give Alexander Wurtz the opportunity for some demonstration laps but will have a proper test session with Johnny Herbert as well."
