Friday practise scrapped
(c) 1996 ATLAS TEAM F1

Tuesday August 20, 1996

There is going to be a major change in Formula One next year, after the Friday qualifying sessions were scrapped last year, now the whole "lost" Friday will no longer be on the agenda. This was agreed by the teams in the so called Concorde Agreement: There will also be a starting grid of at least 20 cars and there will be 17 Grands Prix each season. The teams also stated that they will remain in Formula One at least until 2001.

Williams, McLaren and Tyrrell didn't sign the agreement, it is said that they didn't agree to the banning of Friday practise because of safety reasons.
