Alain Prost, 4 times world champion and now owner of the Grand Prix Team that bears his name has attacked the French Government for the political pressure being applied on his team.

"All I care for is to win. If I'm prevented from winning, I will draw all the necessary consequences," Prost has said.

Prost is trying to move his teams base from Magny-Cours to Versailles, near Paris.

The move has caused political controversy. The Magny-Cours area is dominated by the ruling Socialist party while the Versailles area is a traditional stronghold of the right, who support French president Jacques Chirac.

"It was a businessman's decision (to leave Magny-Cours). Looking back, you'll realise Ligier were not efficient enough. It had nothing to do with their very competent staff but it was due to their isolation," Prost has been quoted as saying.
