The last Belgium Grand Prix at a socked Spa-Francorchamps showed that a wet race can be very dangerous, although luckily no one was hurt, and very expensive for the teams. Because of the current regulations with regards to the composition the tarmac is not able to carry off all the water, not like some kinds of asphalt we see on our roads.

The FIA now seems to acknowledge this problem and there is a test scheduled for the beginning of next year at Monza. A new kind of asphalt will be tested. It was developed in association with Agip. A 650 meters long part of an unused section of the Monza track will be used as a 'test track'.
