The McLaren boysMika Hakkinen: "I am pleased with the work we did today on the balance of the car even though the conditions were difficult. The track is much the same - very bumpy - with the pitlane entrance and exit slightly different which takes a bit of getting used to. I had a small leak on the water radiator but nothing that can't be fixed for tomorrow and as always I am optomistic for tomorrow."

David Coulthard: "A satisfying morning session in the wet, however I was caught out this afternoon in the dry when I ran into the gravel owing to too much rear wheel brake balance. But basically I think we are in the right area."

Ron Dennis: "Not a smooth day with rain and varying conditions complicating the running of the cars. Both drivers suffered minor problems, David with an off and Mika with a minor leak in the water radiator. Therefore, in the circumstances a reasonable day."

Norbert Haug: "A difficult start in terms of track conditions. However, our times in the wet during the first part of the morning session were quite encouraging as were the ones during the dry part of this afternoon."

The Ferrari boyJean Todt: "This morning the changeable weather conditions prevented us from getting through all our programme on the car. With better weather in the second half of the session, we managed to make a few changes to the set up. It is clear that in dry conditions we still have considerable potential to improve."

Michael Schumacher: "I am quite satisfied with today's performance as the car feels well balanced in the dry. However, it is not perfect yet as I have a problem with a bump in one corner, where I almost lost the car twice. Now we must study the data and find a way of solving this problem for tomorrow. There is still room for improvement. I think we look in better shape here than we did in Melbourne. As usual, we must wait for tomorrow's qualifying session to see the true situation."

Eddie Irvine: "In Australia I said the car was well balanced but slow. Now it is still well balanced, but not so slow. It is difficult to find a good set up because of the bumps and the fact the slow corners are very slow. But we are where I expected; behind the McLarens and seemingly pulling away from the rest. There is not much more to come from the car and the rest must now come from me. The car does not feel very different on full or low fuel loads. I made a new seat yesterday and it is the best I have had."
