Honda and Jordan have both praised Harvey Postlethwaite, who died last Monday. Honda, for whom Postlethwaite worked, issued a statement today saying: "He will be remembered in equal measure for his outstanding achievements in Formula 1 race car design and engineering, and his great personal qualities of integrity, passion, warmth, humour and joie de vivre."

Honda was very pleased with the testing car he developed for their possible return in 2000. A car that could be found in the top of testing times on a number of occasions. The statement read: "He produced an all-new test car in record time, which set the world alight with its speed in early tests. In recent years, Harvey had also become a vital and respected member of the FIA F1 Technical Commission's Safety Committee, generously contributing his time and insights to the development of new regulations, design features, and equipment aimed at improving safety in the sport."

Jordan Team-boss Eddie Jordan said: "The news of Harvey's death has come as a great shock. We had been talking only recently about new projects he was working on and very excited about. Harvey was an academic and a true gentleman. He was always so committed and enthusiastic. This is a sad blow to Formula One."

Jordan Chief designer Mike Gascoyne stated yesterday: "It was with the utmost sadness that I heard today about the death of Harvey Postlethwaite. He was above anything a great friend and also a defining character in my career and the careers of many other young engineers. His infectious enthusiasm for both engineering and motorsport was an inspiration to all those who had the benefit of working with him. My thoughts and condolences are naturally with his family at this difficult time."
