Fatal Accident on Silverstone Track

Four joyriders were involved in a fatal accident at Silverstone Circuit, late last night.

According to a Police statement, four men were driving around the track in a MGF (which is a two seater convertible.) The car overturned in the gravel between Vale and Club corners. Three men managed to escape from the car, but the fourth was trapped and after being released by the Fire Service, he was confirmed dead at 11.30 pm. The three survivors were taken to Northampton General Hospital and released after treatment for minor injuries.

The dead man has not yet been named. The driver of the car has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. All four men were Royal Navy personnel and are believed to be part of the Helicopter Display Team which was performing at the Grand Prix.
