No Drivers Change at Williams Next Year

Tuesday August 24th, 1999

During a visit to the CART race at Chicago, Frank Williams revealed that his Formula One team will not be replacing driver Alex Zanardi next season. His teammate, Ralf Schumacher, has also already been confirmed to stay with the team. Williams also denied rumours that he may want to claim back Juan Montoya from CART's Chip Ganassi's team, in exchange for Zanardi.

"We're definitely keeping Alex next year and Juan is Chip's driver," Williams said. "Juan is not mine, he is Chip's and I think Chip made a brilliant choice. I think a couple of years over here should really polish him. He just needs experience. But he is very, very quick."

Williams also commented on Zanardi's lacklustre season so far, saying: "Our car always lets Alex down at the wrong time and we have to do a better job for him."
