Ferrari President Receives Honourary Degree

Monday December 4th, 2000

Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has received an honourary degree from the University of Modena, in recognition for the Italian team's achievements and their contribution to Italy's automotive industry.

In a graduation ceremony held in the university’s new engineering faculty building and in the presence of Italy’s Minister for Universities and Research, Montezemolo received a degree in mechanical engineering.

The Italian took the opportunity to thank Enzo Ferrari, the company's founder.

"It is a great honour to receive this degree," said di Montezemolo. "I wish to thank the work of an exceptional staff and in particular Enzo Ferrari, to whom I owe everything, and who had the courage to take me on as soon as I graduated.

"[Enzo] Ferrari taught me one thing - that you must always look forward and never give up when faced with difficulties."

After clinching both titles last season, di Montezemolo also expressed his confidence for next year, when he believes Ferrari will repeat their success.

"To win in Formula 1, you need a great car, a great driver and a great team," he added. "We have all three of these things and as we will also have them in the future, we will continue to win."
