Suzuka to Undergo Safety Changes

Tuesday December 26th, 2000

The Suzuka circuit, home of the Japanese Grand Prix for the past thirteen years, will undergo major changes before next year's race, due to take place in October.

The work is thought to be part of a plan to keep the race at Suzuka after car giant Toyota, who will make its Formula One debut as a team in 2002, bought the Fuji track with the aim of hosting the Japanese Grand Prix in the future.

The changes, expected to be completed by March next year, will include the expansion of the run-off areas at the S-corner, Dunlop corner and Degner, all of which are to be widened in order to improve safety.

The Japanese Grand Prix will be next season's final event once more, replacing the Malaysian Grand Prix.
