Arrows test driver Mark Webber will not test for the Formula One team until 'contractual difficulties' are resolved.
Webber was due to test this year's Arrows-Supertec A21 for the first time last Thursday at Silverstone, but withdrew after refusing to sign a testing contract. Webber released a statement which said that he could not come to an agreement with Arrows over stipulations made regarding his future.
From the outside, it may appear the team may have treated Webber unfairly, or don't want to be involved with him, but Arrows spokeswoman Ann Bradshaw explained this was not the case.
"We have a standard testing contract, just like every team in Formula 1,
that a driver must sign before he can get in our car. Mark wasn't happy
with some of the stipulations and so declined to sign.
"As a result we couldn't put him in the car, because we wouldn't put anyone
in who hadn't signed this kind of contract."
However, Webber may still test for Arrows, with Bradshaw
adding: "He and Tom (Walkinshaw) may yet be able to come to some agreement
and if he signs a contract he would then be able to test."
It seems unlikely that these complications over Webber's Formula One testing contract will affect his International Formula 3000 drive with Arrows' junior team, European Racing. Webber is currently equal third in the championship, with the next race taking place at this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix.
