Earthquake Hits Suzuka Practice

Friday October 6th, 2000

The earth trembled today at Suzuka during second practice for Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix.

At 1.32pm, just after halfway through the second practice session, an earth tremor was felt at Suzuka, as a result of a much bigger tremor which measured 7.1 on the Richter scale some 100 miles to the west.

It had no effect at Suzuka, but elsewhere trees came down, houses collapsed and the bullet train had to stop. It was the biggest earth tremor in Japan since the massive Kobe quake in 1994.
