Marques Knows He Could Go, Says Stoddart

Thursday August 2nd, 2001

European Minardi team boss Paul Stoddart said that his under-fire driver Tarso Marques is aware that he could be replaced before the end of the season.

Marques has been criticised after a series of poor performances and Stoddart said the Brazilian driver was aware when he joined the team at the start of the season that he could be dropped at any time.

"Tarso is not a pay driver," said Stoddart. "He's on a race-by-race contract, there's no secret about that, and the guy knows that we are great friends and we will be great friends if I do replace him throughout the year.

"We've always said that if somebody came along that provided the team with a serious budget and talent that we would change."
