 We've Been Unlucky, Says Irvine Tuesday August 28th, 2001 Ulsterman Eddie Irvine believes his Jaguar team have been unlucky not to score more points in what has been a disappointing second year in Formula One. A surprise podium finish at Monaco looked to have broken the deadlock and the team expected to rise up the ranks, but Irvine believes they have missed out on points by poor reliability. "We've been a bit unlucky," said Irvine. "We've finished seventh and eighth several times when all the big guys have finished and then when they've all broken down we go out as well." Irvine says that the team have now virtually given up on the rest of the season, but he believes that despite Michael Schumacher having clinched the title for Ferrari, things will continue to be exciting. "I think development on this year's car is pretty much over now because we've got to concentrate on next year's car and make sure it's good," said Irvine. "As for the Championship, it is ideal if it goes down to the wire but I think every race is its own event. I don't think the spectators count the points. Spectators want to see a race, I don't think the points turn them on at the end of the day."
