Successful Shakedown for New Minardi

Thursday February 22nd, 2001

The European Minardi team successfully shook down their car for the 2001 season on Wednesday at the Vairano circuit, in Italy.

Both Fernando Alonso and Tarso Marques had the chance to climb behind the wheel of the new car, completing 30 trouble-free laps as engineers conducted systems checks as well as a basic aero-balance test.

Paul Stoddart, new owner of the team, was glad to see the PS01 - as the car is called - take to the track for the first time, and took the opportunity to thank his team.

"It has all been a bit of a blur," Stoddart admitted, "but to see the car running for the first time was quite an emotional moment and definitely brought things into sharp focus.

"This simply wouldn't have happened without a massive collective effort from everyone on the team, both at Faenza and Ledbury, and I'm grateful to each and every one of them for the hard work and long hours they have put in over the last four weeks."
