Britain have lost its seat on the FIA's World Motor Sport Council - the decision-making governing body which has great influence on the whole of motor racing throughout the world.
The body blow comes after new MSA chief executive Colin Hilton failed to receive enough votes to be elected onto the Council and was beaten to a seat by Turkey's Mumtaz Tahincioglu. The result means Britain will not have a major voice on motor racing decisions for the next four years - even though Briton Max Mosley has won a third term as FIA's president.
Mosley does not represent British interests in any way in his role as president and the election defeat leaves Britain without any representation on the Council for the first time ever.
