Eddie Irvine says he turned down an additional $10 million to his current salary, to maintain his dream of making Jaguar Racing a successful team.
The Ulsterman referred to the idea promoted by Bobby Rahal, to sell Irvine's contract to Jordan Grand Prix. Rahal left Jaguar following that affair, and while the American claimed the offer was a joke, Irvine now reveals the deal was genuinely offered to him.
According to Irvine, he could have moved to Jordan while receiving severance pay from Jaguar. The deal would have seen Irvine receive $10 million dollars more.
Instead, Irvine said he rejected the move in a bid to complete his mission at Jaguar Racing, where he has one year left on his current contract.
"I would have earned an extra £6.6 million," said Irvine to British newspaper The News of the World. "Jordan would have paid me and I would have pocketed the money from Jaguar as well.
"But I didn't do it because Jaguar is what I want to happen. My ambition is to take Jaguar up the grid and make them a success."
