Burti Recovering Quickly, Says Doctor

Thursday September 6th, 2001

Luciano Burti is recovering quickly from the injuries sustained at Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix, according to the doctors taking care of the Prost driver.

The Brazilian underwent new tests on Wednesday afternoon at the Liege's University Hospital and the results confirmed that Prost driver's recovery is being quicker than expected by the doctors.

"The scaning shows that the little bleeding, which was stopped since Sunday, is being naturally absorbed by the organism, as we expected," said FIA's Gary Hartstein, the doctor supervising Burti. "Luciano's physical recuperation pace is excellent and above expectations.

"Nevertheless, we do not want to accelerate things and the family's position is Luciano to keep under medical observation whatever the time it be necessary in order he could go back to his normal routine. We are winning the battle step by step and it is our intention to keep acting in the same manner."

Burti, who crashed at around 240 km/h at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit when trying to overtake Jaguar's Eddie Irvine, admitted that he is willing to get back to work as soon as possible, but that he won't rush his return as he wants to be fully recovered.

"We, drivers, we are always in a hurry, but I know perfectly well when you must be patient and this is one of these moments," Burti said. "Of course I want to be back as soon as possible, but I know that being in a rush now is not a good idea.

"Then I trust the doctors that are taking care of me as well as of my family and with their support I will know what to say about my future."

The Brazilian could leave the hospital during the weekend, but it is yet not known if he will be able to compete at the Italian Grand Prix next week.
