Unhappy Salo Targets Points Finish

Saturday March 30th, 2002

Unhappy Salo Targets Points FinishFinn Mika Salo was not happy with his performance in today's qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix despite finishing in the top ten with his Toyota.

The Finn, who scored the first point for the Japanese squad at the season opening Australian Grand Prix, clocked the tenth quickest time in today's session despite not being happy with the handling of his Michelin-shod TF102. The veteran was looking forward to scoring more points on Sunday.

"I am in 10th place again, which is no real improvement on Malaysia," said Salo. "I am not so happy with this result, but we had a difficult practice yesterday and, even this morning, the set-up was not ideal. Brazil is traditionally a hard race, so I hope we can finish in the points."

Scot Allan McNish, who on Friday impressed when he set the third quickest time, could not repeat the feat today, and had to be content with 16th place.

"The car was in reasonable shape and we made progress with it on each run," he said. "I went over a kerb on my last run, which lost me a couple of tenths but, overall, I had a pretty good car - better than this morning. Usually we are more competitive in the race than in qualifying, so I am reasonably happy."
