Qualifying Goes Ahead Despite Drivers' Petition

Friday April 4th, 2003

A petition from the Formula One drivers failed to prevent Friday's qualifying session for the Brazilian Grand Prix from going ahead after torrential rain flooded the Interlagos circuit.

Scot David Coulthard and Italian Jarno Trulli, who along with World Champion Michael Schumacher lead the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, instigated the petition after concerns grew over safety.

But the paperwork failed to get around to all of the 20 drivers on the Grand Prix grid and World Championship leader Kimi Raikkonen was the first man out on track.
