Burti Gets Jaguar Drive

Thursday September 7th, 2000

The Jaguar team announced on Thursday that Luciano Burti will drive for them next season, alongside Irishman Eddie Irvine.

The 25-year-old Brazilian is elevated to racing duties after being the official test driver during this season.

“I am thrilled that it has finally happened but the most important thing for me now is to seize the opportunity I have been given and focus on making a contribution to the success of the team,” he said.

Burti made his Formula One debut on the Austrian Grand Prix this season, replacing Eddie Irvine, who suffered from health problems, and finishing in eleventh place.

“I feel privileged to be starting my Formula One career with Jaguar Racing,” added Burti. ”Jaguar is such an emotional marque, it has a proud motor racing history and now I have the chance to play a part in an exciting new era in motor sport for Jaguar.”
