Schumacher Breaks Another Record

Sunday September 30th, 2001

World Champion Michael Schumacher wrote another chapter of his successful Formula One career on Sunday as he broke the record for most number of points in a single season by finishing in second place at the United States Grand Prix.

The Ferrari driver had started the race from pole position for the tenth time in sixteen events in 2001, but had to settle for second place behind Finn Mika Hakkinen. The second place scored by Schumacher in today's race allowed the German quadruple champion to get a total of 113 points in the standings, five more than his' and Nigel Mansell's previous record of 108.

Schumacher also became the most successful Formula One driver this season, surpassing Frenchman Alain Prost as the man with the most number of wins, with 52.
