Yoong Fails to Qualify for the Third Time

Saturday July 27th, 2002

Malaysian Alex Yoong failed to qualify for a race for the third time this season after being unable to set a time within the 107 percent in Saturday's qualifying for the German Grand Prix.

The Minardi driver, who had already missed the San Marino and British Grands Prix earlier this year, set a quickest time of 1:19.775 at the Hockenheim circuit on Saturday, 5.3 seconds slower than pole setter Michael Schumacher and less than two tenths of a second off the required 1:19.596.

Yoong's teammate Mark Webber posted the 21st quickest time for tomorrow's German Grand Prix, the Australian being more than 1.5 seconds quicker.
