Malaysian Alex Yoong will not take part at Sunday's German Grand Prix after the race stewards rejected a request by his Minardi team to allow him to race.
Yoong failed to set a time within the required 107 percent in today's qualifying, posting a quickest lap of 1:19.775, less than two tenths of a second slower than needed to make in onto the grid.
Minardi boss Paul Stoddart sent a request in order for Yoong to be allowed to race, but the race stewards said there were no extraordinary circumstances and so the Malaysian will not race.
"Having heard the explanation of the Team Principal and Team Manager, the Stewards of the Meeting decided that there are no exceptional circumstances which would allow car number 22 (Alex Yoong) to take part in the Warm-Up or the Race," said the statement from the stewards.
