Mixed Feelings for Schumachers' Manager

Sunday July 28th, 2002

Willi Weber expressed his delight on Sunday after Michael Schumacher claimed his first win for Ferrari at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim but added that the result also left him disappointed.

Weber is manager to Schumacher and his younger brother Ralf and despite being overjoyed at Schumacher's second win in his home event, he admitted being disappointed it was not a Schumacher one-two.

Ralf had been set to finish second to his brother but the BMW-Williams driver had to pit late in the race and ended the race third behind his teammate Juan Pablo Montoya.

"It could have gone a little better I think because it is a pity Ralf lost his second place because that was what I wanted to see Michael first and Ralf second or Ralf first and Michael second," said Weber. "But I am very, very happy.

"Michael had not won for Ferrari at Hockenheim, he always had a few little problems and this is fantastic to win at Hockenheim in the German Grand Prix because of all the fans and the atmosphere.

"It is unbelievable when he comes into the circuit you can just feel it. He always says to me that it is sensational to come in here and feel the spectators."

And Weber claimed the five-times World Champion could continue competing in Formula One for a long time because he is heavily motivated by Grand Prix racing.

"I think Michael is motivated by himself," he added. "He doesn't need any motivation because he likes what he is doing and that is motivation enough. He is a race driver with all of his heart and you can see it on the podium and feel it wherever he goes and I hope it stays like this for the next 20 years."
