Button Passed Fit to Race in Indy

Saturday September 20th, 2003

Briton Jenson Button has been confirmed fit to race in next weekend's United States Grand Prix after recovering from his testing crash in Spain earlier this week.

Button, who lives in Monaco, was taken to London for a medical check-up after he lost control of his BAR-Honda machine at 170mph and crashed into a metal barrier at the Jerez circuit on Thursday.

There were concerns that the heavy impact could rule him out of the Indianapolis race but the team said: "He has had an examination and everything is fine. He will definitely be racing."

Button was forced to miss the Monaco Grand Prix in June after being hospitalised when he lost control of his car after hitting a barrier at the infamous chicane during practice for the race.

The Monaco crash was his first major accident in his career but he returned to the cockpit for the subsequent Canadian Grand Prix and has no fears of getting back in the car after his recent accident.
