Schumacher to Receive Modena Citizenship

Friday February 2nd, 2001

Michael Schumacher is to be awarded honorary citizenship of Modena, in honour of his championship win for Ferrari.

According to the Italian news agency ANSA, Schumacher will receive the award at a ceremony next Tuesday at the the Town Hall. Modena mayor Giuliano Barbolini suggested that Schumacher be awarded the title, after Schumacher clinched the Driver's World Championship in a Ferrari late last year.

"There's an ideal continuity from the exceptional lesson given by Enzo Ferrari in life and sport, to the people that carried on with the work at the Scuderia of the Prancing Horse, finally winning, after many years, the title so sought after by the tifosi," said the Mayor. "With the talent of a great driver, Schumacher is somehow the symbol of this continuity, and therefore also the symbol of an important chapter for our town".
