De la Rosa Tipped for Prost Test Drive

Wednesday January 31st, 2001

Following the announcement that Enrique Bernoldi will drive alongside Jos Verstappen at the Arrows team in 2001, Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa is looking for a drive next season, and a test drive with Prost Grand Prix seems to be one of his options.

Just as it happened to Finn driver Mika Salo at the beginning of 1999, when he was replaced by Tora Takagi at Arrows just weeks before the start of the season, de la Rosa han been let out in the cold just a month away from the Australian Grand Prix.

Apart from the obvious option at Minardi, who are still to announce their driver line-up, the Spaniard is thought to be in line for a test drive at the Prost team, in order to serve as backup for Argentinean Gaston Mazzacane, who is rumoured to be under a performance clause.

It is thought that Mazzacane could be released by Prost if he is not up to the job in the first few races, so de la Rosa would step in to replace him.

Prost's managing director Joan Villadelprat is apparently de la Rosa's friend and both Spaniards would be glad to work together in the future.
