Jordan Refutes Drivers Rumours

Monday July 30th, 2001

The Jordan team have denied all the speculation concerning the possible replacements for Brazilian Ricardo Zonta following a rumour mill started when the Silverstone-based outfit decided to sack German Heinz-Harald Frentzen last week.

Since Frentzen left the team last Wednesday, a lot of drivers have been linked to the seat currently occupied by test driver Zonta, including Japanese Takuma Sato, Briton Jenson Button or Frenchman Jean Alesi, who was tipped to be set to replace the Brazilian in Hungary.

However, Jordan issued a statement on Monday denying all the rumours and saying they will not make any further comments regarding their driver line-up.

"The Benson and Hedges Jordan Honda team will not be making any further comment concerning drivers until further notice," said the statement. "Any current stories being discussed in the media are purely speculative."
