Button's BMW Written Off in Accident

Tuesday November 6th, 2001

Renault driver Jenson Button has had his BMW car written-off by a friend. Briton Button left the BMW with his friend Brad Poole near his hometown of Frome in Somerset because he believed there was something wrong with it.

Poole was driving the car to his father's garage to repair the problem when he crashed and wrote-off the BMW. Poole suffered a broken leg and chest injuries and Button rushed back from his Monaco home to be at his friend's bedside.

"I might have lost a car, but a car is not important," said Button to British newspaper The Sun. "My mate's health is what matters and I'm just relieved he's going to be okay."

Button will drive for Renault next season in the second year of a two-season loan spell from the BMW-Williams team.
