Premier-1 Will Fail, Says Dennis

Saturday October 13th, 2001

McLaren boss Ron Dennis believes the Premier-1 championship, which aims to compete against Formula One in the future, will fail to succeed.

"It's bizarre," said Dennis today at the Japanese Grand Prix. "I don't see how a bunch of Dallara chassis with Judd V10 engines are going to attract any more exposure than Formula 3000 or any drivers of any real calibre.

"To be honest I am completely dismissive of it. I haven't spent any time thinking about it. I think it will fail and I can't see any reason why it won't fail."

Expected to start in July 2002, Premier-1 will feature 24 cars built by Italian constructor Dallara powered by Judd V10 engines with an estimated 750hp power and running on slick tyres. The cars will be backed by European football clubs.
