Ford WRC Engineer Linked with Jaguar Move

Wednesday October 17th, 2001

Jaguar are ready to back up their purchase of Arrows' wind tunnel with the signing of highly-rated Ford World Rally chief engineer Gunther Steiner - the mastermind behind Colin McRae's and Carlos Sainz's Ford Focus WRC.

It is widely believed that Niki Lauda has made an approach for Steiner, and he could join up with Jaguar once the current World Rally Championship season finishes in November.

Steiner is likely to head up the technical side of Jaguar's Milton Keynes operation and become one of the key figures of the team's 2002 challenge, which is set to be a crucial season for Lauda.
