Schumacher on Top after First Kart Practice

Friday October 26th, 2001

Michael Schumacher showed he is as determined to win as ever as he topped the times in Friday's practice for the final round of the Kart World Championship.

Four-time Formula One World Champion Schumacher topped the times on the day, but had to push hard to beat early pace-setter Briton Lewis Hamilton, who at 16 years old is tipped for future motor racing stardom. The German also broke the previous track record with a time of 43.956.

The event is taking place at Schumacher's hometown circuit in Kerpen, Germany, and qualifying for the race takes place on Saturday with Hamilton, who is managed by McLaren team boss Ron Dennis, hoping for continued improvement ahead of Sunday's race.
