Wilson Hoping for CART Test

Monday October 29th, 2001

Formula 3000 champion Justin Wilson will put his rejection by Jordan behind him as he heads to America this week to bid for a drive in Champ Car racing for 2002.

Wilson and his manager, former Formula One star Jonathan Palmer, will visit Fontana for the final race of the season, and the British hopeful is looking to get in a Champ Car next week.

"It would be nice to have a test and we will try to set one up," said Wilson. "We are talking to a few teams and being at Rockingham (for the Champ Car race) really helped. But it is like learning everything all over again.

"You have to find the right people and it is not easy unless you have a load of money. Formula One testing is still an option but ideally I will stay racing."

Wilson tested twice for Jordan, but he was beaten to the seat by British Formula Three champion Takuma Sato. But Palmer is also hopeful that Wilson will be able to test a Champ Car soon.

"There are a couple of very strong leads out there, and it is possible Justin will test after that race," added manager Palmer. "I have spoken to a couple of teams about it and Justin has arranged his flight so that it is flexible if that does happen."
