Bruno Senna Drives Tribute Lap of Interlagos

Sunday October 24th, 2004

Bruno Senna Drives Tribute Lap of InterlagosAyrton Senna's nephew Bruno drove the late World Champion's 1986 Lotus around his home circuit on Sunday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Brazilian's death at Imola in 1994.

The 19-year-old, who has himself started racing in junior series, lapped the Interlagos track with a Brazilian flag fluttering from the cockpit.

Senna remains the last Brazilian driver to win in Brazil, with McLaren in 1993. Since he died after a crash in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, no Brazilian has scored a point at Interlagos.

"He was a great racing driver and he will always be remembered as such," said McLaren boss Ron Dennis, recalling Senna's drive to victory through the rain with just one functioning gear for the last three laps.
