While the focus of the motorsport world is on the trial that progresses a short distance from the corner that claimed Ayrton Senna's life, Italian Software company CINECA has compiled a MPEG movie showing not only the external views and in car shots, but the actual telemetry output of the FW16, moments before its crash.

Alboreto on the stand

Italian driver Michele Alboreto told the Italian court in the Senna case that he thinks the crash was caused by a mechanical problem and not the track.

He said after he had seen the Michael Schumacher's on-board pictures again in the courtroom again: "I think the cause of Ayrton Senna was a mechanical failure."

Alboreto told reporters after he came out of the court:"Senna's swerve to the right makes me think it was a mechanical failure. The situation (track) at Imola was not exceptional. We've raced in much worse conditions than that. I hope this trial helps us to understand what happened to Senna, because we didn't understand it at the moment.Mechanical failures are normal, given the strain of races. People always aim to go to the limits, but no engineer can ignore safety."

Alboreto added however: "You can't take the sport to court. It would have been better if the investigation into Senna's crash had been carried out by the sporting world."

Tests

Ralf Schumacher was the fastest man on the track on the Silverstone (England) circuit with a 1m 21.44s. Second was Prost driver Olivier Panis with a time of 1m 22.92s.

Today was not a good day for Lola: Ricardo Rosset was ninth in his Lola-Ford with a time of 1m 32.00s while his team-mate didn't set a time at all due to engine problems.

David Coulthard and Gerhard Berger suffered tyre tempeture problems.

19-year-old Nick Haberfeld, former Formula 3 driver, tested for McLaren. He clocked a best time of 1m 26.10s.

Damon Hill is finally putting some miles on his Arrows Yamaha on the Le Castellet circuit. He covered 92 laps with a best time of 1m 08.00s. The main aim of this test was again to get the car more reliable. Frentzen was somewhat faster in the Williams with a time of 1m 06.38s.
