Formula One champions Ferrari denied on Friday they had reached a deal to use Michelin tyres from the start of the 2002 season.
Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper claimed Ferrari would switch to the French company when its current contract with Japanese manufacturer Bridgestone expires at the end of next season.
But in a statement issued from its Maranello headquarters, Ferrari said the report was without foundation and described its relationship with Bridgestone as "excellent".
Ferrari have won two world championship constructors' titles and one drivers' title on Bridgestone tyres over the past two years. Michael Schumacher's drivers' title this season was the team's first in 21 years.
Ferrari won consecutive constructors' titles in 1982 and 1983 with Michelin, who are returning to Formula One next season to break the Bridgestone monopoly.
The Prost team, which uses Ferrari engines, said on Monday they had signed a three-year deal to use Michelin tyres.
