 Schumacher Tips Williams to Challenge for Canada Win Friday June 1st, 2001 The fast Gilles Villeneuve circuit, which will host the Canadian Grand Prix next week, could see the return of the Williams team to top form, according to Ferrari star Michael Schumacher. Since scoring a dominant win at the San Marino Grand Prix thanks to Ralf Schumacher, the BMW-powered cars have struggled to finish a race, but the triple world champion believes the team from Grove could fight for the top spot in Canada. "I think we will have the usual duel between Ferrari and McLaren, even if I reckon that Williams could be in the running," Schumacher said. "It depends on how the Michelin tyres perform, as that track probably suits my brother's team." Williams dominated the three-day session at the Magny-Cours circuit this week, and though in Canada the speeds will be higher than in France, their cars are expected to perform well. Schumacher also tested at the French track this week, but the German admitted their work was not specifically aimed at the Canadian race. "We didn't actually do any specific development for the Canadian GP," Schumacher added. "The car has proved competitive on all the tracks so far, so I'm pretty hopeful that Montreal will go well too."
