Frentzen Set to Stay at Jordan

Thursday June 21st, 2001

German driver Heinz Harald Frentzen expects to stay with his Jordan Formula One team next season.

"Unfortunately for you guys I'm not allowed to tell you details of the (existing) contract," he told a news conference Thursday previewing Sunday's European Grand Prix. "But let's put it this way, I joined the Jordan team in 1999 and we had some good success and I think that I will continue with Jordan in the future."

Some reports suggested before the Canadian Grand Prix that Frentzen had to make up his mind after that race but no announcement emerged as the German pulled out feeling unwell following two heavy crashes in Monaco and Montreal.

He said Thursday he had been diagnosed with a concussion but felt fine after also missing testing at Silverstone last week. Jordan said the outcome of a final medical test before Frentzen is allowed to drive in Friday's practice would not be known until Thursday evening.

The 34-year-old has also been linked to a possible switch to Toyota, who will become the 12th team in Formula One next year.
