Brazilian Hackers Attack Ferrari's Web Site

Thursday May 17th, 2001

The official Ferrari web site was attacked on Wednesday by a group of Brazilian hackers who apparently were protesting against the Italian team's decision to impose team orders at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello was asked to concede his second position to teammate Michael Schumacher during the final laps of the race, thus allowing the German to maintain a four-point gap over McLaren's David Coulthard, who won at the A1-Ring.

To protest against the decision which cost Barrichello his second place, a group of hackers known as Insanity Zine Corp attacked Ferrari's site yesterday, and according to reports in the Italian press, for a few minutes, the hackers were able to change the site's main page to display the message: "Sorry Ferrari, but your site has been disordered."

According to the team, the attack was quickly spotted and the normal order re-established.
