Ferrari Staff Ask di Montezemolo to Stay

Tuesday May 15th, 2001

According to reports in the Italian press, nearly all 600 members of Ferrari's staff in Maranello have signed a petition to ask the company's president Luca di Montezemolo not to switch to politics following Silvio Berlusconi's victory in the general election in Italy.

As reported by The Daily Grapevine last week, Berlusconi invited his close friend di Montezemolo to join his government if he won the election on Sunday, which he did by a big margin.

"I wish to sincerely thank Mr. Berlusconi for his words," said di Montezemolo. "However, I feel it is right and proper that I refrain from comment at the moment. We will speak about it next week."

Reportedly, di Montezemolo, 53, will receive the signed petition on Tuesday, so an announcement about his future is expected soon.
