Toyota Set to Make Decision on Tester

Tuesday November 20th, 2001

Ryo FukudaToyota are expected to make a decision on their future test driver over the next month as they step up their preparations for the 2002 season.

Australian Ryan Briscoe and Japanese driver Ryo Fukuda head the list of young talent for the test driver position at Toyota, who are keeping their options close to their chest.

A Toyota team spokesman would not even confirm that Fukuda tested for the team at the Paul Ricard circuit earlier this month before the testing ban came into effect on November 15. But Briscoe definitely did test and impressed the team with his quick pace and knowledge of the car.

Briscoe does not expect any confirmation of his position until January, but is set to have stiff competition from Fukuda for a full-time testing role at Toyota.
