German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder congratulated Michael Schumacher on Sunday for winning his fourth World Formula One Championship, saying he had thrilled fans with his superior driving skills.
"In defending your title and you have broken records thanks to your professional and highly motivated team," Schroeder said in a letter to Schumacher released in Berlin.
"You have also excited the fans with your superior driving skills. Few Formula One drivers have had the same influence on the sport as you have. You have impressed us all of your exceptional abilities with your fourth Championship title."
Schroeder also said he wished Schumacher good fortune for the next season. Schumacher lifted the title after winning the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday. It was a record-equalling 51st career victory for the German Ferrari driver.
